Can I install and run Linux on MacBook Pro 2018?

Does it work with Linux in MacBook Pro 2018?

Regardless of distribution or Linux kernel version.
I don't have MacBook Pro 2018 yet.
However, I am very concerned about whether Linux will work.
What is the actual situation?

I've thought about a few things that could be a hindrance.

  • Touch Bar (no drivers, so it won't work. Can't you use the function key?)
  • Battery life and fan activity (can't detect heat and the fan keeps spinning full, or the battery runs out faster?)
  • Can't you install it in the first place because of the T2 chip? (Maybe

You may be able to turn off secure boot as shown in ...)

Is it possible to run Linux on MacBook Pro 2018?

I think it depends on what you want from Linux

In the first place, macOS was created as a derivative of BSD-based unix, so

  • POSIXAll you need to do is open Terminal
  • If you want freeware to work, there are package managers like MacPorts and HomeBrew
  • If you want to run Linux as
  • Guest OS, you can also use the Virtual Box method.
  • If you want to create a window environment with XWindow, you can use XQuartz

If you want it to work more as Linux than above (such as a different server startup experiment machine), it's a different story, but
The MacBook Pro (2018) offers few advantages in deploying Linux from zero. If you use the CUI layer of MacOS, you can do most things.
Do you really want to install Linux without macOS?

I tried to google it, but I couldn't find any reports of Linux running in MBP 2018.

Please refer to the documentation for MBP 2016/2017.

I think the only policy is to get an old model that can be verified to work, or try it at a bad price, or wait for the operation report to go up.
