I'm a beginner in networking.

You are using ubuntu as your guest operating system on virtualbox.
I wanted to know the ip address of this ubuntu, so I used the ifconfig command
I tried to find out, but 192.168.**.** didn't show up.
So after a little research,

If the host-only network adapter has not been created, you must create the host-only network adapter by selecting Host Network Manager from the File menu or Global Tools.

After you create it, you can activate the free adapter in the "Network Adapter" in the virtual machine settings and select "Host Only Adapter" to make it available to the virtual machine.
