The 32-bit installer and other file names have the letter x86 on them. What is this?

Intel's i8086 CPUs are commonly referred to as "x86" architectures because they have "86" at the end, such as i8086, i80186, i80386 (also known as "386"), and i486.

Recently, however, it is common to describe only 32-bit architectures as "x86".(The x64 CPU is also compatible with the 32-bit architecture and is broadly included in "x86").

x86 is a common name for the instruction set used by the program you are installing.

The x86 instruction set is officially named IA-32, and the x86 is derived from Intel's 8086 and Intel's 80186, 80286, 80386, and 80486, collectively known as "80x86".
