How to Open Vim from the Right-click Menu

Asked 2 years ago, Updated 2 years ago, 72 views

I am currently using Linux Mint 18.3.

When I right-click on the text file, there is a menu called "Open with Vim".
Nothing happens when you click it.

How can I start Vim from the right click?

  • I think I installed Vim with apt install
  • The desktop environment is MATE
  • Right-click on File Manager.
  • On the terminal, open files that cannot be opened by right-clicking "vim filename".

In conclusion, it started by installing package xterm.

As you commented, gtk-launch vim target file was typed
Failed to start xterm as a child process. There are no such files or directories.
After installing xterm as a result of the error shown in , it started to boot.

I don't know if this is the right way to do it, but just for your information.
