How does quantum computers affect communication systems (especially ssl, aka https)?

Quantum computer startups are starting up, and I think this field seems to be hot these days.I understand that quantum computers have different computations that can be performed than electronic circuits, so that they can solve problems that have not been dealt with in computational quantities.

In particular, I believe that computational quantitative difficulties will have the greatest impact on the field of cryptography, which enables concealment. In particular, I believe that the impact on all secure communications that are based on it will be high.

Question

  • If the performance per cost of a quantum computer was improved by Moore's law, how much would that affect the existing communication system? (e.g. completely unsafe, etc.) For example, the widespread secure communication is https, but is this broken by the development of quantum computers?

Quantum computers generally have the so-called "classical quantum computers" of general-purpose computers, and the "quantum annealing machines" that are specialized in implementing the latest development of pyrotechnics. If anything, I was thinking of a classic quantum computer.Redefine computationally:

  • Does the problem of a quantum computer solving in polynomial time include estimating the ssl key?

When quantum computers reach the level of technology that can be put to practical use (to the extent that individuals can own), quantum communication should be completed. Therefore, even if the encryption is broken by a quantum computer, I believe that quantum communication will maintain the integrity/confidentiality of the communication.I think some communication data will be tapped.

I don't think the previous encryption method is secure.
WEP with WiFi is dangerous, so let's use WPA2 (it seems that WPA2 also had a vulnerability...).

Since NICT recently introduced a new encryption method, I think encryption methods that are not deciphered by quantum computers are becoming the mainstream.
