Is there a way to make a pedometer with monaca?

I am a beginner in both programming and application development.

I'd like to make a simple pedometer.
I can't make apps that run in the background with some blog and monaca, so
I saw a description that says pedometers are impossible.

Take the pedometer
by retrieving data from other apps. Is it impossible to make it?

http://plugins.telerik.com/cordova/plugin/healthkitYou can use this plug-in to read healthcare data (step count, distance data, etc.)
