VirtualBox has failed to boot the virtual machine after the Windows 10 update.

Asked 2 years ago, Updated 2 years ago, 92 views

I updated Windows 1020H2 and found that the host-only adapter that VirtualBox used for its virtual environment disappeared on the Windows side and changed to a new numbered adapter.
As a result, the pre-update virtual environment was unable to boot.

I'd like to be able to boot, but do I have no choice but to manually configure the host-only adapter in Windows?

Supplementary

  • VirtualBox did not back up pre-Windows settings.Windows also has no backup.
  • The adapter that was newly numbered and configured in Windows was also on the VirtualBox side, and after removing it, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VirtualBox itself, but it failed to boot.As a result, the host-only adapter is empty on the Windows side.

Add the error.

Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking - VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter' (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND).

That's all.I would appreciate it if you could provide me with information.

After you start VirtualBox, you can manage the host-only adapter by starting File → Host Network Manager.
By creating and deleting it here, the adapter will also be added and removed from the Windows host-side Network Connection setting.

After the old adapter was removed for some reason, the virtual machine configuration still specifies the adapter (deleted) and the boot may fail.

Try re-creating the adapter from Host Network Manager above and also checking the individual settings of the virtual machine.

For your information, I will also include the default Host Only Adapter configuration screen.
